The Maintenance team look after all types of maintenance, refurbishment and repair tasks around the site including, carpentry,
plumbing, painting and decorating, landscaping, as well as regular testing of the Hydrotherapy pool and legionella testing for infection control purposes. The South Newton site has a total area of 11 acres and employs 9 staff, led by Mark Butler, the Estates Manager. The team includes 6 maintenance staff, one full time gardener and two drivers who transport our service users on their vocational activities and medical appointments.
Ben, who has worked with the maintenance team for 3 years, said “Every day is different. I enjoy the variety in my job and building relationships with the service users and the staff. We work well as part of a team to get the different jobs done.”
There is a wide variety of jobs and the Maintenance team even made a bespoke desk for one of the service users, so that he could use his laptop whilst seated in his wheelchair.
In July, the Maintenance Team were awarded the Glenside Star Service for Excellence Award for all the work they do around the site. The Star Service for Excellence Award was set up to recognise a staff team or individual who demonstrates an innovative service improvement, an outstanding aspect of care, or following excellent feedback about their work.
One of the service users commented “I would like to say how good the maintenance team are. They do a brilliant job of updating rooms and other professionals or family members often comment on how good the ward/site looks. They sort problems quickly and to a great standard. We are lucky to have them.”
The support teams each operate their own shift patterns to cover the main requirements of their role. Career progression opportunities are available to all members of the support teams. Employees from our Housekeeping team have transferred across into care roles, as we always promote job vacancies internally where possible, before going externally. All support staff at Glenside receive a full induction and benefit from yearly appraisals, objective setting and are given refreshment mandatory training annually. Each team is also offered specialist training related to their job roles, for example COSHH, Mobile Working using Elevated Platforms, Hydrotherapy pool maintenance and Legionella testing for the Maintenance team staff and the Level 3 Food Hygiene and training on allergies and food labelling for the Catering team.
