The first of the schools’s participating in Glenside’s Bikeability safe cycling campaign “Use your head..wear a helmet!” kicked off today.
Here the Bemerton St John Junior school, year 6 pupils line up at the start of their Bikeability training which teaches school pupils the necessary skills to ride confidently on today’s roads.
Glenside is providing local schools with some FREE cycle helmets so that participants in the training have the right resources to take part. All pupils are encouraged to bring their own helmets with them, but at the start of each lesson their helmets are checked to confirm they are the right size and aren’t damaged, etc. So having a few spares available is a useful resource for the schools if one of the helmets isn’t up to the right standard.
Bikeability is the government approved National Standards for Cycle Training. Schools wishing to organise Bikeability training courses can do so by contacting Wiltshire Council road safety team on 01225 701970, or click here to email.
Schools wishing to participate in the “Use your head.. wear a helmet” free helmet promotion should contact Claire Bourne, via email.
